What cause the missed period negative pregnancy test? Even though your pregnancy test is negative, you could still be pregnant. The pregnancy test takes 14-16 days on average after ovulation to turn positive. If the ovulation was late and implantation also happened late then it could take longer for pregnancy test to turn positive. If you miss your period then take pregnancy test and the result is negative, repeat the test in a couple of days to see if you are pregnant or not.
The average menstrual cycle is 28 days. Ovulation usually happens around cycle day 14-15 if you are fortunate enough to have the regular 28 day cycle. Your next period would be 28 days from the start of your last menstrual cycle if you have the regular 28 day cycle. The problem with this method is that not all women have 28 day cycle and this method does not applicable for variations in ovulation dates and more importantly the date of implantation.
Pregnancy Tests and Implantation
Another factor to consider about pregnancy test result is when implantation occurs. The pregnancy test will not give positive result until after implantation occurs, it would be about 5-6 days after implantation. Even though the hCG hormone is produced almost right after conception, but it should wait until the embryo implanted into the wall of uterus to release the hCG into the women’s blood stream and require some time to reach sufficient quantities in order to get positive pregnancy test result.
The implantation time is various to every women. It can occur anytime from 6-12 days post ovulation, and a urine pregnancy test will usually not become positive until 5-6 days after ovulation. When the egg implants, some women may experience implantation bleeding, it is when slight spotting or bleeding like menstrual bleeding occurs.
